In today’s video, I share a story from my past (in the early days of building my business) that reminded me that building your business is a marathon, not a sprint!
Hope this gives you a lift!

Episode 7: Your business is a marathon not a sprint!
In this episode, I’m going to talk about why your business needs to be run like a marathon instead of like a sprint. You need to go for long-term results.
I really want to talk about quite an important thing for your business, which is running it like a marathon rather than a sprint and really being into it for the long-term.
I want to frame it by giving a bit of a story.
A few years ago I was part of a mastermind group where it was myself and some other students were learning how to sell better through video and things like that.
Through this, we all partnered up together in groups of two where we would talk together and share notes. I partnered up with someone and we chatted on Skype, but to be honest he had this massive amount of energy inside him which was completely fine, and I can resonate with that sort of thing, but he had so much energy that he was pretty highly wired.
I am a very hard-working guy and I’ve got a lot of energy as well, but we were chatting on Skype and sharing notes, and he was sharing his hunger to succeed. What he actually said to me was interesting. He said “Nick, you seem hungry, but you don’t seem as hungry as me.” He got a little crazy and started saying things like “You need to be foaming at the mouth for success,” “You need to be gritting your teeth,” and things like that.
What he was basically telling me first of all was to be a different person from who I am because I was simply being professional and I was probably working a lot harder than him, and a lot more consistently.
And he was telling me to have this artificial attitude where that’s all it is – it’s all about gritting your teeth, really being in it like that.
What I want to tell you now sums that up. This person, when I checked a few months after this course finished, it didn’t look like he had carried on in business at all. It looked like he had just had this short burst of energy, equivalent to a short-term sprint. He had burned himself out. I’m not even sure if he’s in the industry now, but it certainly looked like he had lost all his momentum and dropped out.
He was telling me at the time about how I needed to have this forced aggressive rampage, which just seemed really over the top.
I had my own personal hunger, which was more about viewing the business as a long-term pursuit.
If I am being honest, I felt like he was all talk and no action. He was trying to put himself into a mind set of being really successful, but when it actually came down to taking the action, he didn’t have it in him for the long term. I think he had a short-term sprint, and a short-term amount of energy, but he didn’t view it as a marathon as I do.
What I want you to take away from this, whether you’re building a networking business, affiliate marketing business, whatever kind of home business you’re in, is that you want to view it as a marathon.
You don’t want to be one of these people who they get in and they just give all this talk about everything that they’re going to do, but it’s all talk and no action. They’re in it for a few weeks or months, and they’re completely burned out and unable to do what they said they were going to do.
Hopefully you’ve resonated with this, and maybe you know someone like that.
